As I was working at the local car wash this week I saw a really old couple walking hands as they were passing by. Dont you just love that? seriously...don't you just love seeing really old people holding hands walking by...for some reason it absolutely stills us in place. To think...geez they made it...they made it!! your imagination takes off...
"I wonder how they met..."
"how many years have they been together..."
"how cute...I wish I could have that..."
"I wonder if his sancha is as old as me..." (j/k about this one....kinda)
so anyways, I thought to myself..."what is it that keep them together that long...and really at this age...do they do it because they have to?"
Don't we always wonder that...is the wo/man i'm with right now the one i'm meant to be with? some say yes...others no. But the elderly I feel like don't really have that option...they deal with eachother..
I asked some patrons the other day about this and their response was..."well ya know...when you're young you have time...you can play a bit..you can enjoy life some and not be with your life partner right now..."
my response was really along the lines of...well...why not put that same attention and love into your partner?
why is it that we have to half arse things? not saying that many don't do that...but more...if old seniors can do it and be happy...why shouldn't you be able to put the same attention and love into something.
Now granted...there are age issues..."you have to sew the ol' wild oats..." "you have to experience everything you want to find what you want..." "you gotta wet the old pickle" (I made this last one up)
But with all the care and concern you put into sewing stuff...you could put into your potential life partner...will it be perfect...no...will it be destined...maybe...am I cool...yes, but that's neither here nor there. Take the time to consider your life as a collection of experiences that require our energy and consider your own ability to put more energy and life into the things already in our lives.
